These bi-colored gems are   called ametrine, and are cut at the seam where the mineral colorations change.  Although the rough stone comes  from Bolivia, our ametrine is all cut in Thailand, a country known for having some of the world's finest gem-cutters.  We individually select each gemstone for its   depth of color, gem quality (also known as "sparkle") and intrinsic beauty.  The Anahi Mine in Bolivia is the only mine today that is actively mining ametrine, although it may be found in other places.   The popularity of tourmaline in the 1980s created a demand for bi-colored gemstones and as supplies began to run low, it was elevated to the status of a precious gem.The demand for bi-colored gemstones has continued since then.
